the story behind fun & fit

Several years ago, I went through an impactful phase of personal growth and self-development. I have always been interested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, however, had not truly committed to any routines in exercise or diet. Lots of excuses ranging from a busy schedule, lack of energy, cost, etc. I started out slow, committing to one workout a week with an accountability partner. This evolved into consistent weekly training which in turn, increased my awareness of my daily habits and lifestyle. As my confidence in fitness grew, so did my confidence in my abilities and self-worth. After years of consistent weight training, I found a passion for bodybuilding. Being so committed to this process instilled discipline, structure, and self-worth into my life. Realizing I was capable of incredibly challenging things, I knew I needed to apply that perspective to all areas of my life. I knew I wanted to accomplish great things, and to do this I would need to perform to the best of my ability each and every day.

Recognizing the value and transformation fitness had on my life, I knew I wanted to impart that to my clients as well. In July of 2020, I started my niche practice of fitness based Occupational Therapy. At this time, schools were closed due to Covid-19 and there were very limited options for physical activity within the special needs community. Our services provided a much needed physical outlet for our kiddos as well as a friendly social environment during a time of daily unknowns. My vision is to change as many children's and families' lives as possible, through therapeutic intervention and fitness. Ultimately- instilling confidence, self-worth, and fulfillment in their daily lives and the belief that anything is possible.

testimonials

Hilary has been my son’s OT for the past four years and I would HIGHLY recommend her services. In addition to helping my son with his Occupational needs, she has also been able to help him with his fitness routine. She is very pleasant and Davis always looks forward to his sessions with her. She is energetic and has a passion for health and fitness which I love, as it adds another layer of positive influence in my son’s life. I look forward to having Davis in her fitness camps this fall which incorporate both the OT skills he needs as well as the exercise component. As you can tell, we are big fans of Hilary!

Hilary has worked with my son for a few years. She has personalized individual classes to focus on his specific needs to work on his core strength and balance. She has also offered small group classes so my son can have a social component to the workouts. He is able to work on following directions, taking turns, and some communication skills at the same time. The best part is he has fun and gets in a good workout.

It’s rare to find someone who is awesome with kids AND exceptionally good at what they do. We found Hilary before my then 4 yr old son was diagnosed. I had met and had my son evaluated by multiple OT’s and Hilary always stood out. Not only is she good at her craft she knows how to motivate kids, how to make modifications, and how to challenge your kid at every session. She’s also one of the few OTs who knows about primitive reflexes and integrating them. My son loved going each time her positive reinforcement worked so well on him! You can tell she’s committed and exceptionally good.

Getting OT with Hilary has been a critical piece of the puzzle to getting my son verbal. Even though the science hasn’t caught up yet I firmly believe all the work she has done with him helped improve his neuro plasticity and verbal abilities. If you’re a parent who believes your kid needs to be challenged and leveled up every dollar you pay will be worthwhile!
