Welcome!
I am excited to welcome you to the Fun & Fit Functional Fitness website! Fun & Fit has long been a dream of mine and I could not be more happy to share it with you. Today’s post will give you some background into how and why we started, and what you can expect from this blog.
A little introduction:
Hi! I’m Hilary, a pediatric Occupational Therapist in Arizona. Throughout my career, I have practiced in various pediatric settings including home health, hospitals, schools, and clinical settings. I specialize in the treatment of kiddos with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorders, Sensory Integration, Cognitive Delay, and Physical Dysfunction.
Throughout years of practice, I found many of our kiddos have difficulty with fitness related activities. Typically, my clients struggle with team sports and physical education classes. This makes it difficult for our kids to participate in physical activities, exercise, and build those foundational skills. With this knowledge, I started Fun & Fit Functional Fitness to design Occupational Therapy sessions around physical fitness and sensory processing. In therapy, we provide kiddos with the necessary sensory input to participate in physical activities and build strength, endurance, and coordination. It is my goal to help our clients improve independence through functional movement and sensorimotor exercise.
Curious what functional movement and sensorimotor exercise consist of, and how they relate to Occupational Therapy?
We’ll go into these topics in future posts- check back soon for education and helpful tips related to children’s fitness, sensory processing, and overall health.
